Low, long boxes that use the space under a bed without needing a crowbar to get them back out.

Under a single bed 190 × 90 × 17 cm Open in the calculator

A 190 × 90 cm frame with 17 cm between the floor and the bed base. Divan and platform beds are often lower, so measure the gap at the lowest point.

Under a bed, height is the constraint and everything else is generous. A box that is 15 cm tall or less will slide in under most frames; anything taller will catch on the slats. Because you reach in from the side, boxes further under the bed are harder to get at, so the calculator’s “single row deep” option is off for this guide and you will see layouts two or three boxes deep. Put the things you use least at the back.

Two practical notes:

Boxes with wheels or handles at the ends are easier to pull out but the wheels add height. Our dimensions are for the plain lidded boxes.
Carpet eats clearance. Measure from the top of the carpet pile, not the floorboards.
Open-top containers collect dust. Euro containers show up here because they are low and long, but they have no lid. Pick a lidded box for anything you want to keep clean.
Check the height of “under-bed” boxes. Wham’s Crystal under-bed sizes are 18 cm tall, so they need a slightly bigger gap than the 17 cm used here; raise the height in the calculator if your bed allows.
