What this is

BoxThatFits is a calculator for people who have a space to fill and want to know which storage boxes make the most of it. Give it a width, depth and height in centimetres or millimetres and it works out which stackable boxes fit, how many you need, and shows you the result in 3D.

It currently knows about 106 boxes from 5 brands. You can browse them all from the boxes by brand page.

Who makes this

BoxThatFits is an independent site made in the UK by one person who got tired of guessing which box would fit. It is not affiliated with Really Useful Products, What More UK (Wham), Curver, IKEA or Tufferman; their names are used only to identify their products.

How the calculator works

Boxes are grouped by footprint, and boxes that share a footprint stack on each other. For each footprint the calculator tiles as many columns as fit on the floor of your space, then fills each column with the combination of box heights that stores the most volume within your height limit. It then tries topping up any leftover width with columns of a different footprint, so you also see mixed layouts.

Results are ranked to use the fewest boxes among the options that hold nearly as much as the best one, keeping every box reachable from the front. Options that need lots of small boxes, or that hold much less, are folded away below the main list. "Holds" uses the maker's own capacity rating where there is one; a figure marked ≈ is our estimate from the box's outside size.

Dimensions come from manufacturer specifications and can differ from a real box by a few millimetres. Leave some clearance before you buy.
